The Indian Coast Guard Air Station Daman received a distress call that due to technical fault, a fishing boat with 09 fishermen was sinking off Valsad coast in Gujarat on Tuesday, August 18, 2026.
With mishap posing an imminent threat to the lives of the fishermen, the Indian Coast Guard Air Station Daman swiftly responded to a distress call. The ICG immediately launched a Chetak helicopter to the reported position of the distressed boat “ IFB Jay Mala” off the Valsad coast. The helicopter promptly reached the location and undertook the rescue operation, successfully bringing all 09 fishermen to safety.
During the rescue operation it was observed that 03 fishermen who were brought to ICGAS Daman had sustained minor injuries. They were given first aid and subsequently shifted to a Government Hospital for further medical treatment.
The swift and coordinated response by the Indian Coast Guard averted a potential accident and reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to saving lives at sea and ensuring the safety of fishermen and mariners.
The Indian Coast Guard has successfully rescued hundreds of people through swift maritime search and rescue missions along the Indian coastline in 2026.

An Advanced Light Helicopter of ICG successfully performed a challenging medical evacuation (MEDEVAC),of a 21-year-old seafarer suffering from acute chest pain aboard the merchant vessel “MT Murlikisan” off Porbandar in Gujarat on July 26, 2026.
A 21-year-old seafarer life was saved on 26 July 2026 (Sunday) after the Indian Coast Guard carried out a challenging medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) operation off the Porbandar coast, overcoming rough sea conditions through swift coordination between Coast Guard District Headquarters No. 1 (CGDHQ-1), Porbandar, Coast Guard Ship Arush and a Coast Guard Advanced Light Helicopter (ALH).
The operation was set in motion on the night of 25 July 2026, when the Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC), Mumbai, alerted CGDHQ-1 that a crew member onboard the merchant vessel “MT Murlikisan” had developed acute chest pain and high fever, requiring urgent evacuation for advanced medical care. CGDHQ-1 immediately activated a search and rescue (SAR) response.

The ICG rescued 170 stranded individuals across 11 separate disaster relief operations in Daman, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, and South Gujarat, amid heavy floods and relentless rainfall, from July 22 to July 24, 2026.
